Fragments of a life

I bought this wonderful coffetablebook about Marilyn Monroe. Imagine being able to read Marilyn's diaries, collected poems, inner thoughts and unfortunately difiicult anxiety. Crawl low under the skin of this legendary beautiful and inspiring woman. All with fascinating pictures and ideas. After I read Joyce Carol Oates novel about her Blonde, I'm totally stuck in Marilyns destiny.

I´ve just read Just kids by Patti Smith

Patti Smith's autobiographical book Just Kids tells the story of her friendship and love relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe - from meeting until his death.
We follow the couple in poverty and hunger, the struggle for survival, artists' dreams and the road to adulthood.

It is an autobiography with great integrity. With the exception of the outspoken story of Patti as a teenager adopted out a child, it feels just like she scrapes a little light on the surface of the memories archives. I never really feel concerned.

And perhaps that is the whole point, what is a legendary rock poet, but his integrity?

Artist scene in Manhattan in the 70's is the book's real protagonist. You get a good idea of what time era was with Andy Warhol at the forefront of art's chief.

Patti Smith can put words on paper, set the text to float and give language a pleasant rhythm. But I do not have a depth.

However, it is a book that must be read. After all, history.
